Porous Titanium Nitride Ceramics Prepared by Carbothermal Reduction

Titanium nitride porous ceramics is a new type of ceramic material which has been gradually developed on the basis of research on titanium nitride ceramics and porous ceramics in recent years. Because it fully exerts the excellent properties of both titanium nitride and porous ceramics, it has attracted attention and has been prepared.
 
The advantage of the carbothermal reduction method is that the porous titanium nitride is prepared by using inexpensive titanium oxide powder and carbon black as main raw materials, thereby reducing the production cost. The porous titanium nitride ceramic prepared by the process has the characteristics of fine crystal grains and high porosity.
 

Titanium nitride ceramic is a new type of high-strength and refractory ceramic material with excellent chemical stability and oxidation resistance, as well as high electrical conductivity and superconducting critical temperature, so it is widely used. A sample in which a sintering aid having a higher melting point is added tends to form a high-viscosity liquid phase during high-temperature sintering, which is advantageous for obtaining a sample having a high porosity.
 
TiO2 with an average particle size of 10μm was used as raw material, Lu2O3 was added as a sintering aid, and the sintering temperature was 1600 °C. Porous titanium nitride ceramic with high porosity and porosity of 78.6% could be prepared.
 
The preparation of titanium nitride porous ceramics by carbothermal reduction method was carried out to investigate the effects of sintering aids, raw material particle size and sintering temperature on the microstructure and properties of titanium nitride porous ceramics, this will be of great significance for the preparation and properties of titanium nitride porous ceramics.
